just went to AZ. ran the code, came back with P0089 fuel pressure 1 control performance. went inside to give me the print out and the only vehicles that came up for that code were from mazda and chrysler. any ideas?

Could be the low fuel pressure pump in the rear of the car, or the low fuel pressure sensor.

I'm assuming neither of those are too deadly for the motor itself then? I have access to a garage, lift and every tool under the sun so whatever it is, will be fixed within the next week. still safe to drive with though?

Brief google search for "P0089 Audi" yields tons of forum discussions, including this:
"Diagnostic trouble code P0089 - The ECM commands the Bosch high-pressure fuel pump to deliver a specific fuel rail pressure - that can vary up to 23,000 psi depending on load and speed. The actual pressure is monitored via the fuel rail pressure sensor. If the fuel rail pressure varies more than desired or if commanded fuel pump flow is 100mm3/second or less, DTC P0089 will set.

Corrective action includes measuring the fuel rail pressure using a Tech II scan tool, then compare that to commanded fuel rail pressure with the engine running at 2000 rpm. The difference must be less than 20 Mpa.

A blockage in the fuel tank or plugged fuel filter could cause this fault (excessive vacuum in fuel line). If there is less than 5 in Hg of vacuum when measured at the fuel pressure test port at 3000 rpm, the fuel pressure regulator could be defective, and may need to be replaced. The fuel pressure regulator (FPR) is a sub assembly located on the Bosch high-pressure fuel pump."

so I need to replace the fuel pump? it was saying at AZ it might be the fuel pressure solenoid, open or short circuit or ECM fault. wouldn't any of the above mentioned screw with the cars timing? still had no engine issues this morning. jumped on 93 real quick and ran through the gears and still no problems. no sputtering or anything, which I assumed would happen with any fuel related issues.

Have it scanned with a vagcom, will give you better info .

I'd guess fuel filter . Plus it wouldn't hurt to.change it anyway. Or fuel pressure regulator .

But Vag be able.to.run the proper diagnostics to pin point it better then the A-Z one.

The question is did they clear the code ? Pick up some injector cleaner , put it in.the tank. Clear the.code and.go.drive.around and.see.if it come back on

They are known for cam lobe wear, causing low fuel pressure. There is an Audi TSB about it.

                      Just going to mention that

                      This is a good read..
P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator - Performance This code is stored in my ecu and the cel is on. My question is, who else has taken their car in for this? My car only has 20k miles on it, so it better not be a cam issue.

That code sounds like a real bitch . People in that thread tracing it for years , replacing all kinds of stuff.

^ that is one of the things that is being replaced under said warranty and the high pressure fuel pump is the other. maybe those 2 being fixed will clear that code? said most likely the only cost to me on this is the fuel and time to bring it to them.

does your scanner give anymore of a read out than the one from AZ?

Nah, I have the same one they have. That's.where I bought it..l ol. It is the expensive one though, not sure which one.they.used. . I have a Chinese version of vagcom called vchecker but I'm not sure if it goes up to 07 . I bought it for my 04 r32 to do throttle body adaptations .

I was planning on buying Vag but then got rid of anything that used it. Doesn't work on my MK1 ..lol I thought someone on here got one, may have been EuroTrash .

alright then. def appreciate all the info on this. I'm thinking I can rule out the ECM as bad since there are no noticable issues? it seems like my car is having the same problem that every b7 a4 2.0t owner is having.
