April 2011 Car of the Month!

Congrats to Dave (cheap) for winning April's Car of the Month!

1965 Factory Five Racing Spyder GT (#4/39 in the world) - a roadster version of the Shelby Daytona Coupe - built by me.

    Mod list:

The whole car is kind of a mod done to a '93 Mustang GT, although there's hardly any original Mustang parts on this build (front lower control arms, rear lower control arms, pedal box, some of the wiring, e-brake cables... that's about it).

    Engine:

Ford 347 (bored and stroked 5.0L aka 302)
    Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads
    Scorpion roller rockers
    Anderson N-91 hi-rev camshaft
Edelbrock Victor Jr. carb intake modified for EFI
Mass-Flo fuel injection (four-barrel throttle body & modified GM mass-air meter, fits under a carb air cleaner)
    Edelbrock fuel rails
    FRPP #36 fuel injectors
Griffin Rad w/ Evans NPG+ cooling system (pump/fluid)
    MSD billet distributor & wires
    Hooker headers Jet-Hot coated
Canton 8-qt road-race oil pan (baffled)

    remaining driveline:

    Tremec 3550 5-speed trans
    RAM HD clutch
    TCI kevlar clutch blanket
    Shortened driveshaft
    Ford 8.8" rear end
    - Posi rebuilt w/ extra clutch
    - Superior hardened 28-spline axles
Wilwood 4-piston front brake calipers, 12" rotors
Ford Cobra 11.xx" rear disc brakes
Fittipaldi 17x9 wheels w/ new Kuhmo Ecsta XS rubber
3-link rear suspension, coilovers all around

    Misc:

    Full Autometer gauges
    Frame sliders
    Keyless RFID start/alarm w/ pager/shock/tilt/prox sensor
S/S brake lines, anodized hard fuel lines
Mallory 110FI external fuel pump & Aeromotive adjustable FPR
    Sumped fuel tank
Wireless steering wheel hub for headlights/turn signals/etc
    Odyssey 12-lb race battery

Any thought of changing the wheels? Love.the car but those wheels seem out of place to me. Seem like a early 2000's style, needs something more throwback to go with the look of the car .

I have considered different wheels before... nothing like the NASCAR takeoffs you posted above, and nothing really vintage either. The Maya DTVs used to catch my eye and I thought they'd look good in a 19/20" antracite, but that was before the car was painted.

Dunno, at this point the Fittipaldis have kinda grown on me; they look like classic porsche wheels and fit the car pretty well. I was just going to use them as roll-around rubber but recently bought new Ecsta XS for them so I'll be keeping them for a while.

I'm also pretty much at a point where I don't want to keep spending money on the car - the add-ons really start to add up financially. Some summer mods I have planned are converting the Tremec to a mid-shift to move the shifter forward to a more natural position, getting a good dyno-tune and finishing my custom center console (which I've documented in the member's build section), and beyond that all I really have planned is redoing the interior upholstery and enjoying the car. Oh and maybe cutting some more holes in the body; one up front for a tow point and two in the back for a removable roll bar.
