What mods are illegal in NH?

So I said screw it and am selling my old place. I will become a NH resident as I have no home/address elsewhere.

What is illegal and what isn't as far as mods go? Like suspension, exhaust, emissions equipment? I currently have my daily driver GTI and a project 71' Datsun 510 (SR20DET swap). What is illegal and what can you get away with (and how) is the question I guess.

Short answer? Nothing. Technically by NH State Inspection law, all original equip. must be there. No added anything, however, you're fully allowed to remove airbags and seat belts, go figure.

as for what CAN you get away with? Everything most of the time.

Deviating from manufacturer's specification is technically illegal. Having said that, i think tint law is 35% max, don't have a super loud exhaust, CEL has to be off, and OBDII emissions system checks have to work. As long as you cover those bases, you should be fine at most places as far as inspections go.

^unless you have a doctors note saying you need the front tint. know a few guys with the waivers. pisses the cops off bad.

the OBD2 bs is for '96 up. really, depends on the station you get to inspect. even the cops dont know most of the laws. not supposed to have any kind of sticker/decal on any window, but cmon.

Yeah, and even if you have some sort of waiver for the tint allowment, it's still a hassle getting pulled over every 2 days.

I am not being a douche by any means, but please use the search feature. This topic has been covered before numerous times. It doesn't have to be like "what mods are legal" but in various threads about exhaust noise, hid lighting, and so forth and so on its been covered.

if you don't drive like an asshole you wont get hassled. I have yet to be hassled in my 89 which is loud and caged. and my 98 has 5 percent tint front and rear.

As far as inspections go, if you want to modify a car, become friends w/ an inspection guy.

depends on wht your car looks like too. Sounds bad but when i inspected a car that looked like rice or wasnt clean i would go over it with a fine tooth comb. Dont try to hide anything eaither, we will find it. Just because it passes state inspection also dosent mean you wont get hassled by cops too.

There is no concise thread out there about what is and what isnt tolerated.

Because it's impossible to make one...the law and the toleration has already been stated in this thread anything past that is up in the air. You can pass four cops driving home and they might not give a #!#!#!#! about your lowered car with tint or modified exhaust but the fifth one might and may write you up for everything. Like people said be smart and you shouldn't have a problem, if you do get pulled over no big deal just fix the problem and show the cops the proof and they delete the ticket. My hatch exhaust is extremely loud uncovered but I've got a full removable baffle in it that makes it hush hush and I only take it out at the track. If you feel the need to listen to loud exhaust daily there's a price for it. Same thing with coilovers I could slam the ground if I wanted to but there's no point so I leave it up. If you decide to lower it you take the risk of getting pulled over and busting parts.

Moral is do what you want and if you can't take the consequences just change it up, simple as that really.

Acording to the state trooper who pulled me over once any mods are illegal, even the factory..... Hell I even had the papers proving it was from GM ha that was a fun time
