Why not do it the right way and do a projector retrofit? It's not that hard.

Why must people be cheapasses at the cost of others... (and potential extra light!)

From what I understand and have been told, if your car came stock from the factory with HID's no matter what kind of housing (Projector, Reflector) it's legal.

Now, here is where we get into modifications and stuff becomes a little fuzzy:

It isn't illegal to have HID lights (Projector, Housing, Color) as long as they are aimed properly and aren't blinding oncoming traffic.

When you just throw the blue bulbs into the reflector I have heard that is illegal, but I have never seen that in writing.

                      HOWEVER

Most dealerships I know will not let a car pass state inspection if it has HID bulbs in it and it didn't come stock with them. I'm not sure how dealerships would react to a full ballast conversion. I can look into that though.

As for the fuzz, they're looking for any excuse to pull you over these days. Driving around with exotic looking lights (Yellows, Purples) is gonna be like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

                      Hope this helps.

                        You're 100% correct....as i posted earlier. Ask me how i know
It's also illegal for a dealership, small shop ect, to fail you because they think it's legal, when it's not.

                        again:
if it's a blue "VTEC STYLE YO LOOK LIKE HIDZ SO TITE" halogen bulb. it's not gunna fly.

                        if it's got a ballast. it's 100% legal.

This is a very interesting thread as I think that a lot of tuners would really like to upgrade the light their vehicles put out while simultaneously upgrading the look while driving. I personally dont understand why my car didnt come with HID from the factory, and the standard headlights and foglights on my LGT are terrible!

I actually went so far as to call the dealer where I bought the car regarding this very issue. They are pretty mod friendly as far as dealers go, and they said that my 08 LGT would pass their state inspection as long as the HID conversion kit had high and low beam capability. The dealer suggested that I choose something that looks as close to what an OE setup would look like on the car lit to not draw undue attention from the authorities.
