Description: Hello, I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery 2 SD (No sunroof)
148.5k Miles
Saint Albans, VT
I'm trying to be as forthcoming as I can about the condition of this beast. I've taken it camping, taken it wheeling, gotten it stuck. Pulled a stump out of the ground with it, towed cars with it... It's a tank.
The Bad:
1. I hit a deer last.... June?... Messed up the front bumper mainly. I replaced it with a D1 front bumper which is all metal. Doesn't line up with the rest of the vehicle but functions the same and is stronger. Still need to reattach the windshield washer fluid tank, and fix a connector for the parking light on the driverside. I have pictures if interested of all the damage and what I pulled out.
1a. i pulled the ac electric fan out when i was fixing the front end because it was completely siezed. I've driven it without it (for awhile apparently) with no problems. I've even sat in traffic and it didn't overheat.
1b. Back window was shot out a couple years ago so I replaced it with a D1 window. the center brake light on top isn't there but it could be with minimal work. it didn't bother me but its included so if you want it on there you can put it in.
2. Headgasket might be going. I am on the fence about this though, as it was replaced at 120k prior to previous owners. I have receipts for that. I dont see it dripping and it doesn't overheat... but the tank goes low. so I carry water/coolant in the rear with me... usually I just check it every other trip.
3. Brakes are functional but I dunno. they will stop the rover but you gotta push... I dunno if its air in the system or maybe the brake booster is tired? I've replaced all the calipers and bled the system and its still feels like that. pads are very good all around though.
Good:
1. Land Rover D1 heavy duty springs. D1's are already taller then D2's but the HD makes it sit a little taller. in the rear I put 1 inch spacers as the D1 perches are an inch taller. i'd say 1.5" lift total. you can go higher but you need more shock travel and new brake lines and reroute the abs sensor wires... I never bothered because it was enough lift for me.
2. Oversized tires. I forget the exact size but they are Discoverer STT's. very good tires... I'd say about 55-60% tread left... one has a nice slice in the sidewall but it isn't deep and i haven't had any issues with it (and I've done some pretty narly wheeling with it).
3. Magnaflow exhaust. this is welded in from the manifolds back so if you want to replace it you gotta cut it out (Land Rover was very stupid when it came to the exhaust manifold so I had to make it all one piece)
4. Extra set of rims/tires. Land Rover Rims are "special" and expensive. the tires on those are near new condition. forget the brand but they are studded. I mainly ran the stt's year round. I think the first year we had the rover I put the winters on and after that I rarely drove it in the winter.
5. Extra parts. a lot of random nuts/bolts and random land rover specific parts. Biggest item is a D1 transfer case with the center diff lock and all the hardware and linkage to install it. Another big part i have is a complete headgasket kit. and new bolts. I didn't use it yet because so far it hasn't been a big enough problem to even check.
6. Added the hitch, wiring is all there... looks rough but functions fine.
if I can think of anything else I'll update. as it sits right now, for it to pass inspection, it would need the wiring fixed for the parking lights in the front, and the washer tank installed. Maybe a brakelight?
Price:
$3500 with the extra rims/tires
$2800 without the extra rims/tires
Not interested in any trades, just looking for cash.
