    1989 BMW 325ix

    Vehicles for SALE
    Name: Mike Pettengill

    Selling: 1989 BMW 325ix

Price: Price Drop! $2700 as is

    Location (City, State): Hudson, NH

Means of Contact: 6034798162 (serious inquiries only, text first please)

Description: Up for sale is one of my e30's. This 325ix came as a 2 car deal i bought a few months ago. I just wanted one of the two, then thought about keeping this one too, but a change of plans means i need to sell it. I have 3 of these things, they're great to drive, easy to work on, and the AWD is amazing in the snow. Throw a set of Nokians on there and you've got yourself a baller winter car. Someone is going to love this car and look great in it, however two are enough for me!

    Specifics:
    e30 325ix = AWD
    2 door
silver in color (not a factory color)
Black Leather Interior, heated seats (in great shape)
    M20 6cyl 2.5 engine
Auto transmission (i know, bummer. You could do a 5 speed swap! That was my initial plan)

    The good:
Exterior is overall in great shape.
Interior is in really great shape!
    Tires are good
Rust is average for a new england e30 of it's age. Yes there is some there, but nothing to stop you from driving it.

    The bad.
-Needs a head, so currently doesn't run. I had a spare i was going to throw on but that turned out to be junk too. I am currently still hunting for one, and if i find one and get it running I'll update the listing (and the price.)
-There is a dent/scrape on the drivers door. My suspicion is that a plow scraped it at it's former storage location (before i bought it) Probably a couple hundred dollars in body work to repair.

If you're interested, there is also a guy on Craigslist i've been talking to willing to sell the entire engine, transmission, transfer-case swap for less than $1000 which is a good deal if you're thinking about doing a 5-speed swap. Happy to share that info with any serious buyers.

What's wrong with the current head? Cracked or warped from over heating?

Timing belt broke, and when the pistons hit the valves it broke the rocker-rod journals. The other head i has excessive wear from lack of oil changes (by whoever owned the head before me.) Machine shop said it was marginal, and might be salvageable, but I opted to try to find a better one if I could.

EDIT: Just for what it's worth, Randall at Precision Machine and Balancing was who i spoke to about salvaging the head. He knows his stuff.

At least you have the M3! I wanted to keep it too, it's really nice, but I got another project and really don't have the time or space or money to keep all these cars. Someone will love it.

How's the low end then? It takes a lot to do that kind of damage, I'm sure there's at least damage to pistons etc.

I know he talked it over with the owner (Dan? Dave?) of 3D Auto Works and showed him some pictures. It's not unheard of to have this happen to these and the guy at 3D said he would throw on a new head and run it if it were his. IIRC, the cylinder walls were fine and the pistons had some minor dings in them.

Andy is correct. The pistons did have some marks on them but none were cracked, and the cylinder walls looked really good actually, cross-hatching still in good shape. I spoke to Dave at 3D as well as a few other very experienced e30 people. They all said if the pistons aren't cracked or have holes and it rotates freely, to run it with a new head. Apparently the bottom end is much stronger than the head.

Yeah they are solid motors... I was just curious about whether the lower end was looked over as well. I know some people in the e30 game, I will circulate this lol
