Subaru Fog Light Mod (Fog lights on with Parking lights)

Just did this my self... Super EZ!!

    1) Remove coin tray
    2) Remove 2 screws which hold the plastic trim under the steering wheel
    3) Pull on the plastic trim and it'll pop out, may have to work it a little around the ignition and under the steering wheel black plastic.
    4) Remove the connectors which go to the switches above the coin tray (fogs, cruise, heated mirror/wiper, etc)
    5) Remove two blue plastic connectors on the front of the fuse panel.
    6) Remove the 10mm nut from the top of the fuse panel
    7) Using a flat blade screwdrive, pop the two clips holding the fuse panel on. Pull fuse panel out and rotate in downward to get to the connectors on the back. It'll be a bit stiff.
    8) You want the large white connector on the middle of the back of the panel. I just pulled that one out so I could work with it. See pics below for connector location.
    9) Trim back the tape/shrink tubing to gain better access to the orange wire. It is the ONLY orange wire and it's kind of hard to find until you pull the connector off and peel the tape back.
    10) Tap the orange wire
    11) Cut a piece of extra wire about 6" to 10" long... save it for a minute or two...
    12) Remove the relay panel by compressing the clips. Easy with pliers.
    13) On the 4th relay from the top you'll see a red wire with a green stripe. Snip the cable tie holding all the wires together for better access.
    14) Snip the red/green strip wire about 3" from teh relay and strip it back about 1/4" (on the relay side).
    15) Tape off the other end of the red/green strip wire that goes upto the dash.
    16) Connect the tapped orange wire to the freshly cut & stripped red/green stripe wire. Pic is of my "test" to make sure it worked. I soldered the wires together and covered w/ heatshrink tubing. I also replaced the cable tie I cut in step 13 here.
    17) Put connectors back in place and test your lights to make sure they function properly
    18) Reassemble everything. You're done.

Note: Light which is ON the fog lamp switch will not illuminate if only the parking lights are on. It will only come on when the headlamps are turned on.

Nice. This is a feature that should have been there from the factory, IMO. I have the equivalent mod done on my car, and even though it's one of the cheapest and easiest to do, it's still one of my favorites.

Yup... I don't know why they don't. My R32 didn't either I had to install the euro headlight switch and then I could do it.

Thanks, I was looking at that also. I unplugged it under the hood but I read that's not enoph with HIDs ? You have to do the under the dash mod ?

Any word on ky headlights? They are now just for looks so I don't get pulled over..... can't see them over the fogs..lol

this thread inspired me to play around. however idk if there's a dif in wire colors between foresters vs imprezas... cuz this is what i saw

i see no orange wire. i don't really care about colors. would u mind just tellin me which pin that is?

The write up was done on a impreza so it would be the same.

That doesn't look like the right plug.. .. it was more in the middle, closer to the bottom of the fuse box. You shouldn't have needed to unplug all of them. Just tilted the fuse panel down from the top and unplugged the big one in the middle.

i didn't need to take them all off. i just did take them all off for a better angle for picturing.
i'll give it another shot tomorow

edit: look at the color wires coming off of both though. every one is exactly the same except for the other picture has an extra light green and orange.
