    Metal supplier

Since this worked out so well with the machine shop I wanted to see if anyone knows a local place to pick up 4130 DOM tubing? I when to Mill metals in Manchester but they only do huge stuff for building construction and wanted nothing to do with my 1.5" DOM stuff.

No point in using 4130 really. Most sanctioning bodies don't allow thin wall chro-mo so the weight would be the same a 1018 mild steel. And unless its perfectly welded, it'll be weaker at the joints.

What are you building? If trying to save weight go chromoly. All the drag cars that have chromoly cages are more desirable than the mild steel cars.

Choice has 4130 for $5.95/ft and they have 1020 too but I didn't get a price.

                        EDIT: 4130 1 5/8" .120 wall.

What type of welding are you planning to use?

I want to say per rules Cromoly needs to be TIG'd

Well it's not for a cage and not for a race car so I'm not too worried about any rules. But either way I will be using a Miller Syncrowave 300 or Hobart TR300-HF. I have a little Millermatic 211 for tacking but I like all my finished welds to be on the Syncrowave.

My work sent me to school for a bit because I do a lot of vacuum certified welding of stainless/inconel/moly at work.

+1 for Greenfield Industries. They deal with a lot of high end stuff. If they can't get it for you and you want to get it local you might also try Valley Welding in Hollis. I have been told they should have that tubing as well as spherical joints and things.
