Looking at getting an 06-07 wrx as a winter/DD car.. What is consensus on them? Sure would love the STI, but dont really need one..

Subaru is owned by FHI (Fuji heavy industries). FHI was partially bought out (17%) by Toyota. Toyota has been influencing their cars for quite a while (hawkeye). The old owner (GM) wasnt doing anything for advancing the company due to money. BUT I will say that I give props to GM for actually bringing over the wrx and sti. Before them it was just vehicles for farmers and lesbians. But people on this forum or any others nowadays think the bugeye was the first Subaru. Ahhhhh noobs....

^^^ i feel like in person the car community is worse with what the first subaru is.... lol not gonna lie i dont care much for newer ones (though id love a new wrx) but i love old suby's....

on another note all i can really find on info about subaru joining on the FR build with toyota is due to their quality with how they build their cars. (aside from the fact of toyota having partial ownership) but one of the major goals is to not break that $25k price tag they projected... now, it shouldnt be very hard but in my opinion they should have just stuck with a toyota engine... a lot cheaper to manufacture, not to mention to sell. and the 2.0 suby motor they stuck in there isnt really much more powerful than most other 4 cyl. cars now. ill appreciate the fact of having the suby motor and knowing things were put together right, but i wouldve like having the same reliability and power but with a little more change in my pocket. i already preordered a test drive and "incentive to buy" so come spring i guess ill let everyone know how it checks out. ive been following the build of the car since 03 when toyota first started playing with the idea of a new sports car (if you even want to consider it the same concept)

Ohhh Subaru stuff. I forgot about this thread.
I worked on a '12 forester and was suuuuper different. Oil filter up top, exhaust is different, timing cover is all metal now (chain). Lots of little stuff. Lots of Toyota influence.
