    Kevin's Mustang: Bottle or not?

    Hey guys...

    I am seriously considering running a bottle on the mustang. It is 4k cheaper than a blower for nearly the same perfomance.

    Blower = $5,500 / 165WHP = $33 per HP
    Bottle = $1,000 / 100WHP = $10 per HP

    Pretty much that Zex kit. With the Tracion control window switch, blowdown tube, and other extras.

    Have you researched nitrous prices around? I know some guys who run it constantly, but they live in FL and have cheap prices.

    Nitrous when properly setup is an awesome power adder for a very small initial investment. Just remember that filling your bottle will cost you over time. Depending on how much you use it, it will eventually surpass the supercharger in overall cost, AND depending on state nitrous is illegal to have hooked up (some states say the bottle can't be open, others say the bottle can't be hooked to the car at all, etc). I do not know NH's nitrous laws at all, sorry.

      After initial parts with accessories (traction switch, blowdown tube, purge, bottle stand/heater) installation ( not doing it myself), plus complete retuning at Petes, it comes to roughly 1,000 bucks...

      Checking the laws now

        That didn't find much in terms of nitrous filling places.

        What I could find:
        http://www.hellfireperformance.com/service.htm - No price listed. Newton, NH
        http://www.vtwincycle.com/ - Rochester, NH (bit far for you), no price listed on site.

        I'm sure someone else knows a good (or existent) place around here to buy it. You'll need to find out their price per lb. Ranges from $1.50-6/lb, which can make a big difference in that "breaking even" (supercharger vs nitrous cost) point.

          i know a place to get your nitrous charged, it's $4 a pound and it's medical nitrous, which is free from the 'contaminants' you would see from regular performance shops. couldn't tell you much else about that statement. but don't worry kevin, there are a few places in the manchester area that you can fill at.

          in nh, the nitrous tank and everything else can be IN the car, but when inspected, the line MUST be disconnected basically

          as long as you aren't nitrous happy, a full tank could last at LEAST a week with going to the track. i say go for gold man, it's the cheapest alternative to good, high horsepower. a 100 shot would be perfect for your mustang, even 125 or around there. but stick a bit lower.

            My tuner has a nitrous filling station...

            He uses it in all his customers cars, even his own 10 second cobra...

            As far as the purge, I probably wont run one. Pete says its not NEEDED, i9ts nice but not needed.

              +1 to everything he said, 100-125 should be a perfect kick in the pants #!

              Also remember that if it's gotta be out for inspection, that means it's "illegal" and if a cop wants to be a dick he can ticket you for it. Just be careful.

                Technically not a whole lot is "needed", but most things serve their purpose. ie. It'd be nice to have a purge right before you go for a track run just to make sure there is no air in the lines and you get all the power you're expecting. Still, he's right, it's not needed.

                Does "traction control switch" mean Window Switch? If not, I'd pick one of those up. You do NOT want to spray at low RPMs. For my car they suggest 3,000+, but for yours I assume you could spray a bit lower (2500-2750? You'd have to check around with your tuner or mustang forums).

                    Pete recommended running a 100 - 125shot. He just did another auto mustang but with long tubes as well ( he makes 8 more RWHP than me on the motor). He traps at 117 now with street tires....

                      You dont spray below 2500rpm...

                      The traction switch allows you to ( like boost limited gears) to tell the computer what RPM to engage the NOS in each gear individually, as long as its still WOT.

                      I'd spray from 2750-6250 in 2,3,4. And spray from 4000-6000 in first ( no spray from the launch)

                        I most likely wont follow through with these plans, but the chance is still there...
