Intercooler sprayers.... usefull or usless ?

So I have been thinking about keeping my IC cool a lot and ways to do it. This was mostly because until recently I didn't have enough air going through my cooler and I new that was a problem . Money is also a problem $500 for a sti scoop and shroud wasn't happening any time soon. So I was trying to come up with ideas.

Fans
Co2 /no2 sprayers

The nitrous and co2 sprayers are way more expensive then I thought they would be . And most say more then they are worth also.

Fans is one I have thought about for a while . Your radiator has fans right? I could fit 2, 7-8 inch fans in my IC . But would they restrict more air at high-speed then its worth for the gain in traffic? They would need to be on the back side but then I'd need much smaller fans.

Now I have a 04 sti IC shroud so I'm getting much more air in . But it also has the sti water spray nozzles. Now I thought sti sprayer was some fast and the.furious sales gimmick. But looking up stuff on nitrous and co2 sprayers, everyone says.to.just get a water sprayer. Water sprayer kits are cheap, quick search found them for less then $100. Then, I don't use my windshield washers, can I just hook that up to the ic nozzles or is.there special pressure needed?

Opinions ?

I have 80% of a CO2 system I had setup for my old Saab. 5lb tank, solenoid, and the "sprayer" I made out of stainless tubing and swagelok fittings. I dont have any pics of it here at work but the sprayer is about the size of a standard computer keyboard with a bar across the top, middle and bottom (if you can picture that). My plan was to drill some tiny holes in the bars and run some braided line from the bottle to the solenoid then sprayer.

If its something your interested in, Id let it go cheap. Im away at work right now so it wont be till early September.

Just when it starts.to get real hot out..lol.

Yea , I may be interested by then. Was going to see if there were some used ones out there. Would be the.only way I'd do it probably.

The Dei cryO2 water kit is cheap. $70 if determined that its useful

You could probably put together that cry02 kit for 30 bucks from NAPA or Autozone; overflow reservoir, windshield washer pump, a few feet of line and a momentary switch.

Yea, that was just an example . Can I just use my washer fluid stuff. I didn't even have it installed at first and now its just there to get it out of the way. I don't use it and the nozzles are in the shroud already. So just pull the lines off the windshield nozzles and put them on the IC nozzles..???

Do you have a rear window washer nozzle? If you do, I'd use that one. If not, yeah do that. You'll just have to clean your windows manually in the meantime. I would think the washer fluid would be very effective. Jump out of the shower and stand in front of the ac or a fan before drying off and you'll see what I mean. But if you have the hardware already there, why not use it?

In the meantime you could pull a pump from a junk yard. Some cars, like mine, have everything you need in the trunk under the spare tire. If you had the motor you could wire it up to your WOT switch or something, plumb it into your washer reservoir. Seems like it'd be pretty simple and cheap.

Oh yea, the rear. I think it does, I removed the rear wiper so I'm not using the sprayer. But like I said I don't use the windshield one either, its empty.

Whats an intercooler?

Just ebay a water sprayer, cheap effective. 20bugeye02 ordered an oversized ebay intercooler and they sent him two. Want me to see if he would let it go cheap? I know you would have to bend some tabs and maybe weld some on

My IC is 8x19x4 ,

I'd really like to check out his hoodscoop though? You said he has the 4in eBay one? I want to know if it will fit over my 04 sti shroud.

for $500, I'd sell the topmount and upgrade to frontmount. I'm sure you could manage it.
I bet if you bought a FMIC, and box of pipes, Rob could make it work for you.

or...
Shroud the intake and turbo, and throw a pull-through fan on the back of the IC
I'm betting you could do all of that for >$200

you could buy some sheet steel, and build the 3 shrouds.

I'd say if its cheap money then give it a shot. I really don't think you are going to gain more than 2-3hp. Plus it's added weight to the car. They stopped putting IC sprayers in evos in 2005.5

I have no interest in going to front mount mount and cutting a giant rectangle out of my front bumper and loosing my fog lights .

I plan on boxing the intake and turbo . Subtle solutions makes a shield with a chimney that's pretty cool but that's another topic for another thread.

Only way to do a pull through fan would be to use 2 maybe 5 inch fans . The way the IC pipeing is, it goes along the back of the IC with a Y from the turbo.

are you still gonna get a turbo blanket and re-route the intake? those will help more than any sprayer will.
