Yeah the 2.3 and 2.0 blocks don't have hardly any extra material to be bored away. You may be able to get by with a .007" oversize but I wouldn't even bother unless its a used block. The 2.0 is nice because it doesnt have balance shafts in it (balance shaft delete is popular on the 2.3s) and is a little more rev-happy so if you are running a larger turbo you can get an extra 500rpm of powerband out of it typically.

I don't like kits either but focussport is the leader in the duratec world (although FF will have you believe otherwise). I have worked with both of them in the past and its pretty clear to me that Randy and the FS crew have it all figured out, especially on the 04-07s. They had some great success with the street tuner challenge 08 focus with the 2.0, made around 400whp. You can look for about 225whp and wtq for the 2.0 at 11psi with the focussport setup, and 300+ if you up the boost and build the engine like you are. As long as the turbo has the same footprint you can change sizes, you may need to rework the downpipe or make spacers to clearance from the block but you can go with several turbos. Focussport made 384whp on 22psi on their 2.3D with all work, on pump gas (91 octane). Additionally the FS kit includes lifetime tuning with their kit.

Nice, I'll definitely look into some kits. It would be a little easier to have all the parts at once, and not have to piece it together. But I also like being able to say "I did that myself, it's custom work!

lol...but yeah, 350-400 on 93 is definitely my goal...

btw- you wouldn't happen to know if they make the duratec 2.0 block in anything besides the stock aluminum would you? I know they have the WRC CGI block for the zetec...it'd be nice to know i have a little extra block strength if i ever need it.

They don't as far as I know, but as far as I know focussport hasn't blown any of them up yet. They're pretty good about letting people know if they do, yeah it shows weakness as a business but from a tuner's perspective it shows people what combination clearly doesn't work. I definitely know what you mean in terms of custom work--my turbo system on my car is a remote system mounted underneath the car in front of the left rear wheel. There's no template for that, especially on a focus lol.

As best I can tell, f2 used to have a turbo kit but doesn't anymore, tom at focus power does but the quality sucks, focussport does, and a couple other companies are developing them. On the upside they have about a hundred of them in use and no failures or anything. A handful of them have built engines, there's a guy on FJ named clintB1321 or something like that, he has a fully built 2.0D on the focussport kit somewhere around 300whp but I think he's running 18psi or something.

I wouldn't do 24psi if I were you unless you were just having it spike to 24 and settling between 20 and 22. I'll be running 25 on mine but the zetec has a lot more extra material there to handle the extra boost. Either way stop by over at FJ sometime and post some threads in the FI forum to get a better idea--the people are a lot more helpful/knowledgeable than at FF for the most part (I'm on both).

I wouldn't go with F2 regardless. All I've heard is bad things about them, and from George's experiences thus far my opinion hasn't changed for the better.

Also, have you heard of anyone sleeving the cylinders? i know with an aluminum block some people sleeve them to run high boost...but theres probably not enough material in the block to bore it out enough for sleeves, huh?

BTW you ever in the concord area? (I'd send you a PM but I can't yet lol)

Actually I believe the blocks are sleeved from the factory--feel free to take a look at your block and confirm or deny it. Either way I don't think there's enough block there to sleeve them successfully, otherwise there's a guy Leo at R&L engines off 108 in Dover, NH that does good work with race and marine motors and he sleeves blocks as well. A friend of mine used to work for him and he is pretty good.

The 2.3 and 2.0 blocks are the same, the difference is in the crank, heads, and conrods I believe--and plenty of people on 2.3s and 2.0s have run 20+psi without a strength issue. However I haven't seen any over 22psi, but I feel like the STC 08 focus probably was to make that amount of power with the 2.0. Then again I think that was on race gas too, and seeing as how this is your daily driver that gets kinda expensive at $8-$9 a gallon, even to mix with 93 oct.

I'll have to do a bit of research and find out for sure if they are sleeved from the factory, and if they are find out how much material is there. that way I can find out if it's feasible to sleeve them for lots and lots of boost

And I'm planning to run 2 tunes, one for 93 and one for 110...one of the guys on FF is running 354 hp on 93, and is getting a 110 tune soon...his dyno/tuning guy thinks he's gonna break 500.

110 really makes that much of a difference? I thought that the most you could run on a stock fuel system and whatnot was the 100 octane non oxygenated non detergent fuels. I'll be using 100 octane when I'm perfecting the 91 octane tune, just to help prevent detonation in the process. Then I'll be running 93 octane on the 91 oct tune, hoping to run 25psi and about 325-350whp with the zetec...Going for the highest stock fuel system hp numbers (stock pump, tank, returnless system) possible.

I'm gonna be doing fuel system work, so 110 will be feasible That guy I was talking about has a return style system..

And the same kid told me that on 93 with a more aggressive tune he could have gotten 400+ hp, but didn't want to take any chances. 400+ has been done, but not on a stock fuel system.

And i think you posted while i was doing my edit above, so I'll say again, you ever in the concord area?

Yeah, my friend jason lives off of the epsom traffic circle in east barnstead, and I drive through concord every day. I live in henniker and work in northfield so i go through concord twice a day. If you see a dark grey kitted focus with a CF hood then thats probably me. Do what I do when I see other forum guys and wave like an idiot :-p I also have a dropped red '95 ranger with side pipes.

My fuel system will consist of 60lb/hr injectors and a kenne bell boost a pump for the pump, no other mods. There's a guy under the name of Dtec04 on the forums and I believe he made over 400whp on 10-15psi with a big turbo--nice low charge temps although the powerband was a bit smaller. I'm off for tonight but I'll catch ya around

F2 had probably a cpl turbos but never got mass produced. I think they tested a few then scrapped it after bragging about numbers and claiming it was coming 'soon'.
And don't believe Ricardo, who says my turbo is an F2. Cuz its a HiBoost. Lies, lies, and more lies.

Yeah dude, that'd be sweet. I'll PM you info so when you guys have a meet you can let me know.

And lol @ George...I found a thread on FJ from F2/Ricardo and they were using some brand of turbo usually found on large trucks. That no one had heard of.

I'll probably end up going with an FS kit, swapping out the turbo for a bigger one, and adding a nice intercooler. I do want to double check with them though, and be assured that they'll still tune for free if I swap out the turbo, as well as that their kit components can handle 20+ lbs of boost.
