Hey guys, I'm new to NE, but it's been a blast chillin' with you guys so far. I was at the Kanc cruise, and the cruiseque at the Brunings.
Meet Nat. My ride is the 1986 Volvo 244 that looks a lot like Mike's, except minus 1 door. She's kind of a pain in the ass, but I'm poor so I have no choice but to love the car to death. As far as looks go she's a little bit of a "head turner", but I'm not sure if it's in the kind of way I would like her to be.... Most of the people who look at her claim to dig the 'eurotrash' look, what with the stove pipe rust patches exhibited on the body behind the fenders and on the trunk, as well as the usually filthy 14" steels running 195 whitewalls. My poser sketched gauges, bunk nitrous switch on the interior and e-brake conversion to passenger eject are a few of the mickey mouse stunts I've pulled with her. Show car? Methinks not... in fact, the cleanest, nicest part of my car is actually the engine bay, which I worked hard to restore to decent condition. Probably used about 3 cans of Engine degreaser, and painted the cam cover, strut mounts, and under hood yellow, giving the bay a flashy swedish flag theme (+65hp)
Bought the junker for $500 on craigslist last October (3rd owner) with 272,000 miles on it, and have since dumped maybe a grand total and 3,000 miles of hard driving into the thing. So at the end of the day, I really enjoy being able to beat the living piss out of a car that I care about, but I'm not too heavily invested in. Whatever breaks at this point I'm pretty sure I can fix it, or at leads get it home :P
Replaced:
-Fuel tank
-in-tank fuel pump
-Main fuel pump
-Fuel filter
-Alternator/regulator
-Full top end gasket job
Various upgrades to Natalie
- Cat delete
- 2" straight pipe exhaust, 1 muffler
- Lowered front end (heated springs)
- Upgraded Monroe rear suspension + brakes
- Ported head
- Removed Thermostat (wide open coolant feed)
- Hardwired Stereo with PowerBass speakers installed on the rear deck (+15hp)
All told I'm lucky if I'm getting 120hp, so disclaimer: I am not a race car driver or tuner. I'm just a broke dude screwing around with a beater of a Volvo.
Additional plans:
- AC delete
- I've got a set of Borbet Type B rims on Remington Emeralds, just waiting on spacers
- Lowered rear end
-New exhaust, Borla stainless and N1 Acura muffler
- IPD swaybars etc etc
Anyway, that's me for now. Hope to see you guys all around soon! Enjoy your summer!
