racing beat sells just a muffler for older mazdas which might fit your bill. i would leave that engine alone for as long as you can. being that it is so new. what where you looking at for a intake manifold? being a 4 port the only real way to really push the power will most likely be boost. my 91 n/a rx7 has a 5th and 6th port to help it.

I've got a RB silencer and straight through muffler, plus the Lou's exhaust muffler. It was too loud with just the RB setup. The muffler is different compared to the power pulse muffler they include in their rx7 kits though. The muffler I have is more for track use than street which is why I had Lou's exhaust add another.

I have the 2.5" version already, and the silencer. The drone was unbearable below 3,000rpm so I added the additional muffler. Note I have no emmissions and a header too.

Before I put the muffler on the truck had an aweful drone at cruising speeds around town that was unbearable. However it sounded great under acceleration. I want something that is a compromise I guess.
I enjoyed my electric cut out..

Not everyone felt the same way though, it was a little raspy when you got up into.the higher RPM's.

This is what it sounds like now (as recorded by an iPhone). Very muted, but will gain some attention if I open it up through 1st and 2nd. At cruising speeds it is silent.

This is what it sounded like before I added the additional muffler (as recorded by a camera). More throaty idle, but horrible drone at cruising speeds. I couldn't drive it below 3,000 rpm without my head exploding.

And a tunnel drive by with the old exhaust...

sounds like a rotary to me. maybe you just need to give that new muffler you put in the back some more time to break in/burn out.

Yeah, no. Still a little too loud.

I've been to Limerock Park when they ran 3-rotor cars. I think my ears are still ringing. I love the sound...but just not something I'm going to want driving around town.

I agree. It sounded better before... but below 3,000 rpm was completely unbearable. I would have a headache from the pressure after about 10 minutes of driving. Just imagine a 15" subwoofer playing a 60Hz sound wave at full volume and that's what it felt like. And with only a 4 speed tranny, it was virtually impossible to drive at certain speeds without dipping into that range.

So anyway, that's why I'm thinking of creating a dump-out pipe. So I can get that sound when I want it, but I can quiet things down when the wife is with me.
