LOUDON, N.H. (AP) — For the first time in nearly 40 years, snowmobile racing could return to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Speedway officials are seeking permission from the Loudon Planning Board to hold a "snodeo" Feb. 20-21. Unlike the snowmobile races from the early 1970s, the races would be held in a parking lot south of the grandstand rather than on the track's oval.
The plan could run into opposition from neighbors. Hillary Nelson, a Canterbury resident who was part of a 1999 lawsuit opposing the track's expansion, told the New Hampshire Union Leader she's concerned that granting the request would erode an agreement that limits events at the speedway to an April 1 to Oct. 31 window.
A public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
