    idle problem!

hey guys, the car is finally running, sounds awesome and i've already had my next door neighbor complain that its to loud when I start it up everyday, lol, heres the issue, its starts fine but has a high idle around 1500-1800rpm, there is no visible vacuum leak that I can find anywhere, so heres the question, i'm not sure what its running for timing but thats the one thing that I haven't adjusted yet, and the car isn't tuned and I know its running a little rich. my only question is, could that be an issue that could possibly cause the high idle of not being tuned and the timing being a little off.

Does the idle go up and down between 1500 and 1800? If so there's a chance that you're getting some idle surge. The intake manifold on these, on the (I believe) driver's side has a small rubber plug. Under that there is a screw with an O-ring on it that controls the idle. If the O-ring is damaged or has shrunk down/broken down from age, or the rubber plug is missing, it can result in idle surge (or just an overall random/searching idle).

Also if you know anyone that has access to alldata you can reset the idle, provided you already looked for idle leaks and addressed the O-ring and plug.

Does the idle drop when it warms up or does it stay up there??

ya, i've looking into almost the whole thing except for that plug on the intake manifold, but i contacted my friend that i bought the car from and he said to look it up on the safc installed on the car and set it to -1 or 0, i believe it is set at -40 right now, so i'm going to give that a shot and take a look at the idle adjustment screw and see what I can work out with that.

it stays pretty steady the whole time, but every once in a while i start it up one day and its a like 1500rpm, the next days its like 1800rpm, its strange, but i'm going to look into some things a little more and keep you guys updated on it.
