Exactly. It's been our experience as a club for the last few years that the best shows are the weekend-long ones. Don't get me wrong, one day events are fun, but it's nice to be able to make a weekend out of it and do other things and have a chance to actually enjoy everything.

Gary (gf's brother) builds the engines for Predator and Prowler, along with the sassy massey pulling tractors, and we might be able to get the country girl (late 70s alcohol dragster) there for sit-ins and whatnot. Again this is all theoretical/tentative but it's nice to try and call in all those favors I've been collecting over time should be a hell of a show.

no doubt. better to get "no" than not try at all.

the weekend events are great, but can also suck massive cause the long haulers need wicked incentive to stay the night. plus, stuff needs to be packed up for the night, then opened back up in the morn. everyone needs wicked time to setup for it. but if you start really makin calls now, you might be able to pull off a really good one the first time round. just need to talk money to those people who will be bringing things. you dont want too much the first time and run out of payment money, but you dont want too little so it looks like it will fail next time.

i hate to be the asshole but from looking at this it brings a few things up that i think need to be said. First off you guys are no nopi and dont have what it takes to do a full weekend event imo. Also i know some of the smaller weekend events do it near a field so people can pitch a tent and sleep or bring a camper vs. paying for rooms. and if they have to pay for room are you gonna work something out for a discount if you are in the show. As far as a weekend long event i think it is something you are gonna need to work up to and just not jump into it because it brings up the question how many people will stay the full weekend. I feel the most should be 2 days one night. These are just a few concerns i do have

Also, are we going to have access to power sources?
          Justin,
Thanks to it being bike weeks main lot the lot is setup specifically as vendor sights and every few feet is totally wired with electricity, phone, and water so any vendors attending would have no problem. Plus the lot is fenced in and lit for added night security for any vending booths.

a weekend long event in mine (as well as most clubs i know) is more worth attending than a single day event. no one wants to drive 3 hours from say Connecticut just to attend a day long event then go back home. Our club for example only attends weekend long events out of state. As some offer camping most do the hotel routine and seems to work fine.

I like the weekend thing but, that #!#!#!#! gets expensive man for the people staying.

Day 1;tole's Gas, room, food entrence fee. (Maybe t-shirt)

Night; food, drinks random money for random things, maybe more gas depending

              Day 2; food, another room,
              Raffle?

See where I'm going with this... I like the idea of our first big show being a weekend but that a big deal. Rome wasn't built in a day. Plus I know plenty of people that come far and wide for 1 day events. Look at subarus wicked meet WBM.
Speeeeking of wicked big meet they had to postone it cause of trying to figure everything out with sponsers/staff/setting it up. And they started 8 months in advance and that's a 1 day meet!!

                Tyler/Neil,

Thanks again for the input. Criticism is also important, I'm glad to see people are willing to help but its always good to have a few realists in the bunch to keep everyone grounded.

As had been previously mentioned, Saturday is the day that the majority of the cars will be there and Sunday is the day that the awards (if we decide on them) will be awarded and most club activities will occur. Friday is more of an extra day for the locals that don't mind the trip but it doesn't particularly involve any shows or anything so it's not a huge deal if people don't show for that.

I think if we pool our resources early and figure out exactly what our capability is we can lock down a time frame and supplies a lot easier. Even if 10% of what we're suggesting happens it'll be an awesome show, regardless.

Keep in mind the more entrants and full sponsors we get, the lower our overhead will be, so we can have ticket prices be lower. I'm thinking $10 day of show registration and $8 preregistration, but it's just an idea.

I agree with matty. Keep the ideas, and constructive criticism coming. We can't do this without a lot of input, and a lot of work.

We definitely are going to need to start finding sponsors, preferably before ECBN's. We don't want to be handing out flyers that have no sponsors on them, having some sponsorship will help give us at least a little credibility

Matty, not sure if we want to discuss this portion here or not, but what kind of $ are we looking for out of sponsors?

Just a side thought, some of you know my dad works at M&M Ford (in Epsom) as a car salesman. It's a possibility to get a few Roush Mustangs, and possibly a Shelby [GT500 or otherwise] depending on their current stock come summer time. They are one of a very select (maybe 1 of 2) dealers in the Northeast that get NEW Roush Mustangs, and they get at least 2 of any limited production vehicles [GT500 etc]. If they have the new SVT F-150 Raptor that might be something I could try to get up there too.

Last thing, what does everyone think of hiring a catering service to provide food? We don't have any idea how many people are going to be there, but we also have no idea how much food we're going to need. If we had a catering service, I'm sure they have how much food they need down to a science [if we give them an idea of how many people will be there a few weeks beforehand]. It would be expensive, but it may be worth it as well. Just a thought, any input would be nice!

                    Justin,

Shelby either works for or his father owns a food distribution center (can't remember which) and he already volunteered to help us out for food (and has catered before). As long as we have the capacity to provide food for a #!#!#!#!load of people that shouldn't be an issue, might as well give business to the local guys .

As it's being partially sponsored by the lobster pound we'll see if they are interested in giving a discount on food with a ticket stub or something along those lines (and we'll see if George can help get the word out to Laconia businesses for sponsors).

The other thing you may be able to get your dad to do (provided they can get the insurance for it) is to try and get a car for raffle (maybe a focus or fiesta or something?). If they have the insurance on it and someone wins the raffle your dad's dealership isn't out a car. I like the idea of having the raptors and mustangs there as show pieces as well.

This is a huge marketing opportunity for all businesses so I'm sure plenty of people are ready and willing to help.

In terms of the amount of money we're looking for for sponsors we really don't know this far ahead of time. I would assume that also depends on whether or not they make a donation of labor or product as well because that has to be taken into consideration. If someone donates, say, all of the food for free we can't charge them on top of that (we could, but we'd be dicks...we'll see...).

Awesome! I knew Shelby had volunteered, but I wasn't aware he had connections with a whole food distribution center

The owner of M&M Ford is a bit of a prick, so trying to get him to raffle a car most likely wouldn't work, even with insurance

When we hit summer (i.e. june or so) i'll talk to my dad about getting some cars up there.
For now we need to mainly focus on sponsorships, and keep working out the little details so everything can fall into place.

                        Quick update from Jason,

Apparently the Lobster Pound will be available for catering and from the last talk he had with them a while ago they were planning on catering the event. There's always the opportunity for other food vendors to rent a vendor space to sell something else. We'll keep you in mind if something with the Lobster Pound planning happens, so thank you Shelby for offering .

that sounds good. i actually dont have those kind of connections to food. i have a sams club card and my mom works at a school so we could do sysco too. but thats about it. i just know what we do for catering. when i say catering i mean we usually do a driver appreciation day(s) for our local landfill (yes, i live up north). we bring like 2 grills etc and cook for the day. thats about it. but anything you need for help with number crunching, let me know. my mom has run a restaurant before and has been in the food industry for ~20 years. glad to hear the pound will be in it for food. something else for food: maybe something neat--like popcorn or cotton candy? just rent a rig for the show.

and sponsors are a need. i say local places (dealerships/custom shops/etc.) also, if ANYONE has any connections with OCC, they might be interested in bringing up a few bikes and their hotrods. i will email my bud with the monster truck and see what he might want for money to park the rig for the weekend. also for sponsors: Summit Racing might be willing to donate and be a sponsor. someone could email them and see. big places would be a big help with money.

i think a weekend thing would be do-able. just gotta think of everything now, not later. as for the bedding, yes, discounts at motels would probably be a great thing to have. if we have people like OCC there, that will attract a ton of people from this state (meaning they might not have to stay over). and the ones who do stay over need mega incentive to do so. showcase everything NH and Laconia have to offer as well as having sweet stuff at the show. as long as we dont have too much to pay for, it will work out. have enough to get people to come to the first one, then have more each following year.

just keep the ideas rolling, whether for or against. its all up to the club heads on whether it happens or not, but i think it should. we (without doubt!) have plenty of cars that will show up. events are the next part!

so, just email'd one of my buddies with the monster truck. its a real monster truck (he doesnt have a ton of money), but its a real one, full size. i just asked for a price for parking it there for the weekend.

we will see what he says. hopefully not too bad. that would deff bring some people. (would be better though if he could run it around some!)

OCC would be sooo sick as well. just their name would bring masses.
