I liked that waitress so i gave her a $5 tip for a 8 dollar bill, not a big deal especially since you said she holds the tables for us.

I didn't say that they didn't have to tip the bartenders, just that the waitresses don't split tips between themselves.

Oh boy. I'm one of the strongest supporters of "bad service = low or no tip", but you need to factor in something else.

If you have a $50 tab and you use a gift card or coupon to knock that down to say $30... You don't tip based on the $30, you have to base it on the $50!!

Same thing with our visits. Before 7 you're getting 50% off and $3 beers. If your bill came to $9.09, it would have been closer to $20 on a regular price. Your tip should have been around 20% of $20, or about $4.

So your $1.91 tip could really come off as an insult, or a statement that your service was just HORRIBLE.

my view on it, is if the bill is less than 5 bucks, who cares what the tip was... most people i know that bartend or waitress/waiter arent expecting 5 bucks on a 5 dollar tab...

i normally tip at least 2-3 bucks for something around 5bucks or so. if im paying for something more, i usually round up to the nearest amount thats close to 5-10 bucks. depends on the service of course. if they were really good i may tip more. so normally no less than 20%

it really all depends on a lot... lol no real way to say what you tip every time... cuz one way or another youll end up ripping someone off, or throwing out stupid money

thats what i did... lol i always over tip anyway.. usually intervals of 5$ wherever it comes out... but i didnt need to spend alot of money just to give an impression or something.. she's making money off the entire table... i couldve just not tipped at all like many people do... then they mightve still charged my card the states 18% request.. =even less.. a tip is a tip. i was still good enough to give one... Thats like being pissed at someone for not putting their change in the box at McD's.. which btw, i always do..

oh, and yes steve you are correct- always tip based off actual total... my meal was regular priced.. i can never manage to get there before 7:00... maybe someday i will.. haha

most know my opinion on tiping. I have no understanding on why the price of my food has anything to do with how much i tip. it just makes no sense. If my bill is $60 and i was there for a half hour. Why should my tip be bigger then if my bill was $15 and i was there for 2hours???
