Free Tuner Car Show - Norwood, MA

I'm going to bring the truck. Lots of people registered already on Facebook. Should be a good turnout, and free stuff if you pre-register.

Haven't been there in 4 or 5 years, and I plan to keep it that way.

I had to look up what I.C.E meant. I've been a car audio guy for decades and never heard it called that. But then again, I've never gone past a basic SQ installation to dump monitors and useless giant speakers in my car.

Anyway, I was supposed to meet up with some of my Mazda friends but the event got postponed. Since I don't have anything else to do I might as well check this out.

Show had a decent turnout. I wasn't all that interested in the Monster stage antics but I took a tour of the UTI campus and that was pretty cool. I chatted up a few people about their rides and most of them were pretty personable. Even if I have no interest in a ride, I like listening to the owners talk about their passion. The people that have some shop or their friends do all the work stick out like a sore thumb becuase they can't talk the talk.

The judging was a joke though. I enjoy participant judged shows much better because the winners are obvious.

My friend's RX8 took 2nd in the Japanse category, probably because they liked the velocity red paint job and thought it was aftermarket. Granted it has quite a bit of metal flake in it but I saw nicer rides and better stances.

Best engine bay went to a Mazdaspeed Protege with the stock plastic engine cover painted yellow and some nice polished intercooler piping. There were some much nicer engine bays with a lot more work put into them. I enjoyed seeing the MSP but there were cars with methane injection and giant turbos that were far more impressive.

Best truck went to a Chevy S10 Low rider. I knew he was going to be my competition, and after showing the judges my truck I had a feeling they weren't going to score me high. Afterall I don't have I.C.E. My suspension is lowered, but not slammed, and although my interior is custom, it doesn't have...umm I.C.E. I don't even think the S10 had his engine bay open....and of all the photo galleries I've seen, no one took a photo of it.

I actually tried to park next to him when I drove in but some crazy b!tch told me she was reserving 10 spots in the shade. No one parked there until about 12:00pm and at one point I saw a dirty minivan in a spot. LOL. That's what you get for a free show. Next time I'll tell someone reserving spots to eff off. If you want to park together, you roll in together. End of story.

Oh and some b!tch let her kid honk my horn and put his greasy fingers all over my truck. I was facing away when it went off and I was nice about it...but 10 seconds later I regretting being nice. I should have yelled at her and told her and her kid to step away. Do I seriously need "look but don't touch" signs? I thought that was implied at a car show.

Thanks for the review Chuyler1. I was wondering how the show went. I was thinking about attending the show but was tied up with other things.

...oh and a few organizational items.

                      1) Food. There was a single vendor selling boiled hot dogs. C'mon people, you can do better.

                      2) Vendors. They were spread out and some were too close to the stage and PA system. It's a bit hard to talk to people with loud music blaring.

...but overall, I'd probably go again. It was a free show and I had a good time. Taking the tour was cool and I'll definitely pass along the information to my wife who is a school adjustment counselor and often works with kids that aren't on the 4-year-college-track. I'm not saying that as a bad thing...just that they are more hands on learners and would excel in the program UTI has to offer. I honestly didn't know places like this existed so close by.
